Prescreen Requirements
Songs
PRESCREEN (MTCP Format):
•Two contrasting songs, 60-90 seconds each
•Option A: One pre-1970, one post-1970 (any genre: musical theatre, pop, hip-hop, folk, rock, rap, soul, country, punk, etc.)
•Option B: One musical theatre song (any era), one song of your choice in any contrasting style
•Musical accompaniment required (live or recorded)—no a cappella
•Waist-up framing recommended
•Include slate: name, song title, composer
CALLBACK:
•Perform prescreen materials with direction/coaching from faculty
•Accompanist provided on campus
Monologues
PRESCREEN (MTCP Format):
•One monologue, 60-90 seconds
•From published play or by professional writer
•Contemporary (typically post-1950)
•Age-appropriate character
•Waist-up framing
•Include slate: name, play title, playwright
CALLBACK:
•Perform prescreen material with direction/coaching from faculty
Dance
⚠️ DANCE NOT REQUIRED
•SRU does not require dance auditions for either prescreen or callback phases
•Optional: Submit dance video to be considered for Dance Performance minor
•Program accommodates all dance experience levels through collaboration with nationally-ranked Dance Department
OPTIONAL PRESCREEN (if submitting):
•Option A: Brief ballet series (plié, tendu, grand battement, pirouettes en déhors both sides, grand jeté)
•Option B: Show your best dancing/moving—include one turn, one jump, one kick (or suitable alternatives)
•60-90 seconds, full-body framing (head to floor)
•Include slate: name, style/choreographer
Wildcard / Special Skill
OPTIONAL (60-90 seconds):
•Show your personality or share something about you
•Special skill, interesting story, passion speech, instrument
